Commercial EV Rate Options
To help you plan for electrifying your fleet, or for public/private EV charging stations at your business, here is an overview of basic rate options for the Supply and Delivery Sections of a monthly commercial electric service bill. Customers are encouraged to use the fleet calculator to generate a personalized cost estimate associated with converting their fleets – based on the number and type of vehicles , the miles driven/day, charger type, charging schedule, rates, and more.
Available Delivery Rates
ComEd offers two delivery service rate options to Commercial EV charging customers. These charges, known as Distribution Facilities Charges, finance the maintenance of the poles, wires, and other facilities needed to deliver your electricity.
The first option available to C&I customers is the traditional kilowatt (kW-based) rate that bills for delivery based upon the highest 30-minute kW demand being delivered at the meter from 9 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday, excluding certain holidays. In addition to the Distribution Facilities Charge, delivery service charges on a customer’s monthly bill also include a Customer Charge and a Standard Metering Charge. This option may benefit customers that avoid charging their EVs during the normal business day from 9 am to 6 pm or that utilize their charges often so they don’t have a higher than average kW demand relative to their kilowatt-hour usage.
C&I customers with a separate EV Charging meter may elect to take delivery service under the Watthour Delivery Class for EV Charging – a new initiative launched in tandem with ComEd’s investments in electrification, and offering an alternative to kW demand-based delivery rates, potentially lowering delivery costs for customers ramping-up their charging infrastructure. This option may be beneficial for EV charging customers that utilize the chargers from 9 am to 6 pm Monday - Friday and have a higher than average kW demand relative to their kWh usage for charging since the EV chargers are not utilized as often.
Like the kW demand based rate, the monthly bill for a customer utilizing the Watthour Delivery Class for EV Charging also includes a Customer Charge and a Standard Metering Charge, in addition to the kWh-based Distribution Facilities Charge based on their total kWh usage for the month. Customers with an EV Charging only meter eligible for this option include commercial customers – such as municipalities, businesses and other nonresidential type accounts – and those providing charging services for customers or fleets. Electing this option will also qualify the customer for an additional point of electric service with certain restrictions. In some cases, this would allow charging facilities to be located away from the existing electric service. Additional information on rate options can be found below and in Rates & Tariffs.

Fixed-Price Supply Rate (Rate BES)
With our fixed-price rate, Rate BES (Basic Electric Service), your energy rate varies by season. It is adjusted and published periodically but it does not change from hour to hour or from day to day. You will pay the same price per kWh for electricity no matter what time of day or which day you use it. View Rate Information.
Hourly Pricing Supply Rate (Rate BESH)
ComEd’s Hourly Pricing rate, Rate BESH (Basic Electric Service Hourly Pricing), allows customers to pay an hourly price for electricity based on wholesale market prices. The price per kWh varies by the hour, and customers can manage their costs by shifting some of their electricity use to times when prices are lower (typically during night and weekend hours). Since most EV drivers charge overnight, enrolling in ComEd's Hourly Pricing program allows customers to reduce their electric vehicle's charging costs, as demand and prices for power are generally lower overnight.
Customers who sign up for Hourly Pricing have access to tools to help them monitor electricity prices and manage their costs. Learn more about ComEd’s Hourly Pricing program or contact an Hourly Pricing specialist at 888-202-7787.

Retail Delivery Service (Rate RDS)
The Retail Delivery Service rate, Rate RDS, is applicable to customers who elect to have their electricity supplied by an entity other than ComEd. Retail Electric Suppliers (RES) provide customers with options outside their local utility companies for electricity supply. A RES is certified by the Illinois Commerce Commission and registered to supply electricity to ComEd customers. Read about Customer Choice.
